Taking your pet abroad can be complicated, but we are here to help. Get in touch as soon as you know your travel requirements.

The Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) is the system that allows pet dogs, cats and ferrets from certain countries to enter the UK without quarantine, as long as they meet the rules. It also means that people in the UK can take their dogs, cats and ferrets to other European Union countries and return with them to the UK. Using the travel scheme, people who have taken their dogs, cats or ferrets to certain non-EU countries can bring them back to the UK without the need for quarantine. The rules are designed to keep the UK free from rabies and certain other diseases.

The UK does not permit the import of dogs, cats and ferrets that have not been vaccinated against rabies. Once they have reached the minimum age for vaccination, they have to be prepared in accordance with the law, taking account of the required order of preparation. We can advise you how to prepare your pet for travel, and make sure you satisfy all the rules.

What about Brexit?

Following Brexit, your pet will be still able to return from the EU without quarantine provided you have obtained a valid EU or UK pet passport, however the process and requirements for travel to the EU will depend on the agreement with the EU. The government publishes its latest advice on its website, so it is best to check there.

The gov.uk website advises that in order to make sure your pet is able to travel from the UK to the EU after Brexit, you should contact your vet at least four months before travel to get the latest advice.

We will make it as easy as possible to travel with your pet. Call us now on 020 7794 1777 to discuss our ‘pet passport’ service.
